What started as a weekend project to make a set of wooden scales for my Spyderco Manix 2 quickly became a passion project in early 2020. I hadn’t planned on making sets for sale, but after a few requests in the Reddit group r/knifeclub, I started making sets to order.
Originally, sets were all made by hand on a bandsaw, drill press, and bench sander- but it didn’t take long to realize that automating hole placement and profiling would improve scale consistency. A local maker helped me set up the first few models and graciously provided use of his CNC laser.
I was able to invest in my own CNC laser and router with the help of Atom preorders through the TRM Facebook group. This model took longer to produce due to machine setup, trial and error with new software, and full-time schooling- but by November, Atom scales were in production, and subsequent models were quicker to prototype. Since then, I have expanded offerings to include more Spyderco, TRM, and Vero models.
Along with woodworking, I’m a session guitarist, a full-time graduate student, and a registered nurse. Due to scheduling, book spots will be limited.
Thanks for the patience and support!
